Drip, drop. Drip, drop.
So went the water falling from the paw of a large brute as he sat by a large body of water, a small river flowing between the boundaries of different packs and telling him where his job started and where it began again. The male leaned down and sniffed at his platter-sized paw, licking at the bottom of his pads, tasting the water hesitantly.
When he figured that it wouldn't hurt to be with, he shook his wet paw off, placing it back on the grassy soil along the edge of the bank. He backed up slowly, looking over his shoulder to prevent any surprise attacks from any angry dogs and then faced forward again, his eyes focused on the edge of the other side of the bank.
He lowered the front of his body, his heart beginning to pick up. He knew that he was about to experience the rushing exhilaration of a successful jump, long over a river that was quite wide. He hesitated for a moment, looking at the other edge, doing some quick calculations in his brain. He gave another three steps back and his black stub of a tail flicked in the air once, as if a racing flag.
His body went surging forward, his paws slapping the ground, his tongue lolling out of his muzzle, his ears whipping with the wind while he streaked for the bank. His hind legs ended up just on the tip of the soil, his front legs between them as he prepared for the jump.
He set off, power surging through his haunches as he launched himself forward, soaring through the air, sun slanting off of his black and tan coat, warming up his body in the graceful sun.
When he alighted down on the other side, he was so overcome with joy that he slowed down in his landing procedure, causing his left hind foot to slip into the water. Jerking it back as if bitten, he tumbled off the bank away from the river, his heart pounding at the coldness of the water.
He lay in the relaxing sun for just a moment before rolling onto his belly. He leaned down and sniffed along the ground, getting up to his feet. He kicked out his left hind foot, trying to flick the water away as he padded forward, sniffing a nearby tree. Smelling the dominance of another male, his hackles immediately began to rise and a feeling overcame him; a feeling of want and anger as he made it his decision that he would be attacking whoever had dared to trespass into Ash Pack territory.
He crept forward, noticing the markings becoming more and more frequent and stronger the closer he got to, what he assumed was the center of the land. He was sniffing along the roots of a tree when he froze, his tail sticking straight out and his hackles rising even higher. He started the growl deep in the back of his throat as he didn't even bother to turn around, knowing that someone had snuck up behind him.

"Hello Nuntis! You really should calm down." Kayla said as she was coming out fo the bushes. She didn't think he would attack her as she too was part of Ash Pack.

"Yes, I know that is your job, and you are doing it perfectly well." Kayla said praising him. She was happy he didn't decide to attack her though.
"You don't think that the rest of the pack members can handle themselves in a situation like that? Most of us, are perfectly capable of handling intruders." Kayla said. She used and unchalleging tone. But she felt somewhat safe in her own territory with Nuntis doing such a good job. She sat down and folded her tail neatly to her side.

Nuntis rolled his eyes, turning his head to the side as if he were done with the conversation with the obviously annoying female. He reached up, scratching his side against a tree until bits of his fur floated off and an irritated patch of pick skin showed underneath his black and brown pelt. "Ma'am, you obviously haven't been part of the pack all that long to think that all of the dogs here can all handle themselves." He said, anxiously looking around.
Since she had sneaked up behind him and scared the daylights out of him, Nuntis was now on edge, hoping to get into a fight with someone even if it meant being a pointless fight. Shoot, if he really had to and this female provoked him enough, he might just leap at her anyway and take down her body. He looked over her again, taking her body into memory, noticing little holes in her armor where he would go for first if he were to actually attack the annoying peaceful female.

"Well, then you must be born with no brain! I have been here for a while. And I said 'most'. Accent on 'most'!" She snapped. She noticed him looking her over. She really didn't like the way he was. She was starting to get nervous. She looked around to see if anyone was around. If someone was, and Nuntis attacked her, she would have proof. She just hoped he wouldn't attack.

"Why thankyou! I know, I am pretty amazing aren't I?" Kayla said, basically bragging now.

Slikked down by the wind, her fluffy pelt looked straightened as she padded towards the sound of yowling by the border. Creeping along the undergrowth her ears listened for the noise, only to realize it wasn't a border squirmish.
"Hey guys, I was going hunting. I thought there was a battle here. Would you keep it down?" She barked, although a friendly smile was still on her face. They seemed to be argueing over something. "Come on Kayla, why don't you make yourself useful and go help hunt; instead of annoy our border patrol." She barked, as though talking to a pup.
Meranda respected the older warrior Nuntis, and believed he wouldn't start a pittiless arguement like this. A nod was passed to the older warrior. "Good evening Warrior Nuntis," she said respectfully, wagging her tail.

"Hello Meranda. Yes, I should get hunting. Instead of annoying wolves." She said to Meranda before turning her head to look at Nuntis. "Sorry Nuntis. I know how much you like your peace." She said to the male wolf. An annoying tone in her voice. It was still in a joking way.
She trotted off in the opposite direction. As she left, she mumbled something no one else could hear, nor, understand. She kept her senses up in case of any food.

"Wolves? I wish. I havnt seen one of those since we were back with the humans..." she trailed off and surpressed a sad, mournful sigh. Her humans were great; they played with her, fed her, took her out on adventures to another Smell-places, but now she would never see them again. They were her world. She never believed she could live without them. Meranda would probably never come to terms with the fact they were gone. Her ambition in life was to find them, and watch their happy smiles as they would be reunited.
Tongue lolling out from the journey, her eyes flicked towards Kayla as her mumbling became quiet and the forest was silent once more. She shuffled her paws, grit, or more like ash, stuck between her toes. "I was hunting by myself. You know, to get out of camp for a while, when I heard the growls. I swore we were being attacked by Beach Pack," she growled, the thought of blood spattering from her pack made her shudder, and take a step back. "Is there any threat though?" she asked, arching her head up slightly to the taller dog.
